The nonpartisan group Californians for Good Governance reported Monday night that the California Senate voted in favor of an Orwellian bill that would allow the state medical board to designate doctors who don’t express the party line on COVID as “unprofessional.” Presumably, this would lead to these documents losing their licenses to share their opinions. The bill now moves to the House and then, after members have approved it, to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.
RIP: #AB2098, which would punish doctors for misinforming about covid, has just been approved in the Senate without discussion or debate. It will go to the Assembly for the concurrence of the amendments and then to the Governor. pic.twitter.com/WdPXVND2yI

The bill, AB 2098, was introduced by Democratic Assemblyman Evan Low in February and reads like a textbook on censorship:
Data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that people who are not vaccinated have a risk of dying from COVID-19 that is 11 times higher than people who are fully vaccinated.
This is a very questionable statistic, as there are many studies that come to different conclusions.
The CDC has also just admitted that it has botched the COVID response and is now in need of a shake-up. But are we supposed to automatically trust every word that comes out of director Rochelle Walensky’s mouth?
The safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines have been confirmed through evaluation by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the vaccines remain under intensive safety monitoring by the CDC.
Too many doctors and researchers are not 100% confident in the safety and efficacy of mRNA injections, and many countries ban their use in children. Meanwhile, Omicron’s new specific drives are expected to pass this week, even though it has never been tested on humans. But no one will be allowed to discuss or debate that if Newsom signs this bill. The bill also states:
The spread of misinformation and misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines has undermined public confidence and put lives at grave risk.
Many arguments that have been made by skeptics of the COVID vaccine have turned out to be correct. One of those skeptics was the Director of Public Health of Los Angeles, Bárbara Ferrer, who admitted that the marketing shots that “it doesn’t work so well” it was complicated. I bet you
Do you remember that the authorities told us that vaccines would prevent you from getting COVID? Are we supposed to blindly follow what they say despite their terrible track record?

The bill continues:
The Federation of State Medical Boards has released a statement warning that doctors who are involved in spreading misinformation or misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine risk losing their medical license, and that doctors have the duty to provide their patients with accurate and scientifically based information.
So will the state medical board decide what doctors can and can’t say? “The board is made up of half doctors and half lawyers,” Sen. Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore) said in June. “Lawyers are no more qualified than me.” and what exactly it is disinformation? The bill provides us with a definition:
“Disinformation” means false information that contradicts the contemporary scientific consensus.to the extent that its dissemination constitutes gross negligence on the part of the licensee. Contrary to standard of care.
The original bill contained the strikethrough words, which were amended to add the phrase “contrary to the standard of care.” Journalist Katy Grimes wrote in the california globe on the “creepy” definition before that amendment was adopted, but his words still ring true:
Many medical professionals have called this definition “medical tyranny.” Imagine if cancer was treated the same way by this Legislature. Is there a “contemporary scientific consensus” on treatments and are doctors threatened with losing their licenses if they test new treatments or drugs for cancer patients?
This bill will certainly face many legal challenges; in fact, the educational nonprofit organization Physicians for Informed Consent has already filed a First Amendment free speech lawsuit against the Medical Board of California. yours lawsuit state:
AB 2098 and the Board’s position regarding Covid disinformation is anti-medical, anti-public health, anti-science, and anti-free speech, which is why PIC is defending the constitutional rights of its members.
Let’s hope they win, because this terrible bill is an assault on doctors and free speech. It is censorship pure and simple, and it does not belong in this country or in the practice of medicine.
