Lindsey Graham threatens ‘riots in the streets’ if Trump is impeached

Is that a threat, Lindsey Graham?

“If there is an impeachment of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information, after the Clinton debacle…there will be riots in the streetsthe South Carolina Republican senator told his former South Carolina congressional colleague Trey Gowdy, now a Fox News anchor. Sunday night in America.

Trump was quick to share the clip with his little girl.semi-fascist” following on his failed site Truth Social.

On one level, the clip was hilarious: There have never been two thugs less threatening than Graham and Gowdy. Gowdy, of course, chaired the House Select Committee on Benghazi, which sought to attribute the 2012 Libyan terror attacks, which killed four Americans, to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (Hence the reference to the “Clinton debacle.”) Every time Trump complains about the persecution of him, he fantasizes about enduring 13 hours of mostly hostile grilling in front of a House committee, like Clinton did. It wouldn’t end well for him; she was unharmed.

Gowdy insisted that Clinton be prosecuted; rightly so, he wasn’t. But his committee discovered the existence of his private email server, and the FBI’s botched investigation of that non-scandal may well have cost Clinton the presidency.

So score one for Gowdy. But he is now on Fox, not in Congress, and I only found out because his friend Lindsey seemed to threaten the country. I haven’t heard of Gowdy for a long time.

Far from pleased that the Benghazi hearing proved that Clinton had done no wrong but nevertheless ended his political career and put the country in the hands of a lunatic, Graham and Gowdy are upset. So it’s time to promise chaos if the investigation into Trump’s escape with hundreds of classified documents, apparently revealing human intelligence agents, US sources, intelligence-gathering methods and who knows what else, results in his prosecution.

I’m not saying that Graham himself promised to lead the riots. Hey, I don’t want to. I’m sure he’d be like Senator Josh Hawley if they ever walked up to the Capitol, punching insurgents from afar. and then run away from them as fast as you can.

Of course, Trump has also been making a version of this threat. He apparently sent a “message” to Attorney General Merrick Garland: “The country is on fire. What can I do to reduce the heat?” That sounded to many of us like a mob boss telling you it would be a shame if your house was burned down because of your gambling debts, but the New York Times Garland insists he was simply “baffled” by the message. I doubt it, but I don’t have the Times reporter sources.

Oh, and in that same conversation with Gowdy, Graham also threatened “riots” over the Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 results there, in which Graham resists. summons to testify. He apparently believes he can scare District Attorney Fani Willis with threats of civil unrest. Hey I can’t.

This kind of rhetoric will grow stronger the closer the Justice Department gets to Trump. I absolutely believe there will be riots if Garland does the right thing. Now that people like Graham are promising them on sight, law enforcement may be ready too.

I am aware of my impulse to make fun of these guys and their promises to freak out on the streets. Obviously, Graham and Gowdy won’t. But we know a lot of people in Trump’s “semi-fascist” will. I will now put Graham in that “semi-fascist” category, since he is trying to accomplish his agenda with a threat of force.

“I have never been more concerned with the law and politics than I am now,” Graham told Gowdy.

You should be, Lindsey. Because they both come for you.
