Intel Core i9-12900K claimed to be the “World’s Best Gaming Processor”

intelligence thrown out its first six Alder Lake-S processors on Wednesday night. The SKUs that make up the initial roaster of 12th Gen Intel Core processors can be found detailed below in a table. Briefly, they are Intel Core i9-12900K/KF, Intel Core i7-12700K/KF, and Intel Core i5-12600K/KF. From the suffixes, seasoned Bit-Tech-ies will know that these are all enthusiast multiplier-unlocked CPUs, with the ‘KF’ chips sold with iGPUs being left out.

The highlights of the first ‘Intel 7’ process product release were basically the things we were looking forward to after Intel Architecture Day in August: specific release SKU information, some benchmarks, and some input from Intel partners regarding the first 600 series motherboards and DDR5 RAM kits. We have all of that now, but Intel won’t allow third-party reviews to be published until the CPUs and PCs are available to the public, starting on November 4.

Above you can see all the new SKUs. You can see the combination of P and E cores, base and turbo frequencies, as well as caches, etc. Important additions to this table include base processor power and maximum turbo power. You can ignore the smaller wattage figure, as all enthusiast motherboards will run the newer CPUs at the higher power limit shown to take full advantage of their potential.

Taking into account the high-end Intel Core i9-12900K to control the potential of these 12th generation Core processor offerings, Intel says that this chip is the “best gaming processor in the world.” It features 16 cores and 24 threads and runs at speeds of up to 5.2GHz, but on its high-end cooling pad it will tease over 240W when under heavy loads.

At last night’s event, Intel showed some of its own test results, showed “leadership game.” You can see the graph he shared directly above, which suggests that the Intel i9-12900K is about 12 percent faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in modern PC gaming. Unfortunately, it appears that Intel’s Windows 11 systems have not been updated with AMD/Microsoft patches for AMD L3 caching and “preferred core technology” to work as they should. Remember that these issues could slow down games on AMD platforms by up to 15 percent.

Intel claimed better advances in content creation compared to its own previous generation flagship CPUs. In these processor-intensive use cases, 12th-gen CPUs were at least a third faster than their 11th-gen ancestors. Of course, increased core counts and multi-core loving creative applications will have been instrumental in these improvements.

For your interest, I’ve embedded an Intel i9-12900K comparison below, as Shared by Der8auer. You can also check out some fancy wafers and the shots courtesy of HardwareLuxx editor Andreas Schilling. On twitter.

Word on the street is that the flagship Core i9-12900K will be priced at $590, the Core i7-12700K will be $410, and the Core i5-12600K will be $290.

Intel introduced the new 600 series chipsets along with the new processors. For enthusiast-grade desktop processors, it has enabled partners like Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI to release motherboards based on the Z690 chipset. The new motherboards provide modern, advanced I/O technologies like PCIe 5.0, DDR5 (generally), fast integrated wired and wireless networking, and more as standard.

Lots of new motherboards have been revealed, for example, only Asus has nineteen Z690 models covering all kinds of capacities and sizes (E-ATX, ATX, mATX and mini-ITX) ready. the likes of aorusY G-skill they also boast about their new DDR5 memory modules.
