It’s customary for fans to throw gifts and items like roses and letters onto the stage as their favorite artists perform, but recently, the trend has gotten a bit out of hand and the latest victim of the craze is Harry Styles.
During one of his 15 dates at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, Styles was stoned with chicken nuggets and briefly stopped the show to address the “very interesting approach”.
“Who threw the chicken nugget?” she yelled with a smile on her face, holding up the cold piece of fried food for the crowd to see as another nugget landed onstage. “It’s another chicken nugget!” As the crowd began chanting an invitation for him to eat it, Styles explained, “I don’t eat chicken, sorry! I do not eat meat”.
“First of all,” he said as he took the second nugget, “This is cold. And I’m assuming very old.” At this point, the singer was going back and forth with the audience as he asked if they wanted the nugget back. “Why? Because! Don’t eat it,” he advised as he tossed the chicken into the crowd. Now he’s on the ground. Don’t go looking for him, we’ll get you another nugget.”
Although the choice of chicken as ammunition made styles laugh rather than angry, other artists haven’t had as much luck with the items thrown at them. In July, Kid Cudi headlined the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, but left his set early after several water bottles were thrown at him by the crowd. “Yo, I’m leaving this stage if you all throw one more damn thing here, I’m leaving, I’m leaving right now,” he said after impact.
Last week, Styles and Live Nation announced that they would be extending their “Love on Tour” world tour with the addition of 19 new dates in Europe for the coming year, which will follow their tours of North and Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. It also added new dates in Austin, Chicago and São Paulo.
