A new mob is in development, but it’s still a few years away: Destructoid

A new life of crime is in the making

After the rumors about its development, Hangar 13 has confirmed today that a new mafia the project is in process. However, there are still a few years to go.

in a new interview about him mafia site, celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary, Hangar 13 General Manager Roman Hladík confirmed that the new game is in the works.

“I am happy to confirm that we have started work on a new mafia Projects! While there are a few years to go and we can’t share anything else at this time, we are very excited to continue working on this beloved franchise and entertain our players with new stories.”

A kotaku report earlier this year broke the news that a new mafia was in early development on Hangar 13. This was in the midst of news that studio head Haden Blackman was leaving the developer. COO Matthew Urban also reportedly left the studio at the time.

Kotaku’s report states that the new project is codenamed “Nero”, and is expected to be a prequel to the mafia trilogy. Unreal Engine 5 is reportedly what the team will be using for it, rather than the Mafia III engine.

New starts

the mafia series consists of three games: the first mafia, Mafia IIand the most recent Mafia III. The Hangar 13 team has also prepared a Definitive Edition for the entire franchise, released in 2020.

While only three games in the span of two decades, the series has maintained a following over the years. It is definitely the place to go if you want open world criminal action in historical settings.

With Hangar 13 confirming that it’s embarking on a new project, I’m curious to see what they’ll do. If Kotaku’s report of a prequel is on the money, you might be interested in a shiny new open-world mobster game. We’ll see what’s on the way once Hangar 13 is ready to share more.

Meanwhile, the first mafia want free from September 1 to 5 on Steam, so you can get back in touch with the series’ roots there.
